Melissa McCarthy’s 50 lb-Weight Loss Journey… It’s Totally Relatable
Who doesn’t love Melissa McCarthy? She’s a super-confident, funny girl with positive vibes.
… And she doesn’t care what people think about her weight.
But have you seen her photos lately? The actress was seen rocking a slimmer figure in her latest movie Life of the Party.
If you are curious about what led up to her weight loss, then read on…
1. She’s been ‘every size in the world’
In her 2013 interview with More magazine, she said: “I’ve been every size in the world,” as her weight fluctuated in the past.

“I didn’t appreciate it. If I was a six or an eight, I thought, ‘Why aren’t I a two or a four?’”
But now that she has two awesome kids and the ‘dreamiest husband on the planet,’ she said: “everything else is just a work in progress.”
2. She struggled finding designers to dress her.
Melissa has been honest that she’s had a difficult time finding designers to dress her for big shows like awards night.
“Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers—very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people—and they all said no,” she told Redbook in 2014.
3. So…she decided to design her own clothing lines.
The actress once said, “When I go shopping, most of the time I’m disappointed.”
She knew that 75 percent of women in the U.S. is a size 14 or above. That’s what you call a ‘plus-size.’
“I just think, if you’re going to make women’s clothing, make women’s clothing. Designers that put everyone in categories are over-complicating something that should be easy,” she told Refinery29.
In 2015, Melissa launched her own Melissa McCarthy Seven7 line and also designed clothes for Lane Bryant.
4. She’s NOT a huge fan of dieting.
“I could eat healthier, I could drink less,” Melissa told Rolling Stone in 2014. “I should be learning another language and working out more, but I’m just always saying, ‘Ah, I could get hit by a bus tomorrow.'”
5. She says that no one should be hung up on appearances.
Melissa promotes body positivity in her 2016 powerful Instagram message.
“We have to stop categorizing and judging women based on their bodies. We are teaching young girls to strive for unattainable perfection instead of feeling healthy and happy in their own skin.”
6. She said she lost 50 pounds by just being ‘boring.’
In 2015, Melissa lost a whopping 50 pounds. She just changed the way she thinks about her weight.
“I truly stopped worrying about it,” she told Life & Style magazine. “I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked.”
Her secret?
“No trick, nothing to tell, just super-boring life. You bring it real down, you don’t do anything fun, and you go to bed at 7:30—that’s the trick.”
7. But, she made an exercise routine overhaul.
She started kicking up her exercise routine when she was offered to star in Spy, alongside Jude Law. Melissa started training with a martial arts instructor.
8. She kept the weight off.
Melissa looked really good when she attended the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month.
